Relieved and happy to have the new MacBook. Having lived through a painful harddrive failure a month after the warranty expired on G4 PowerBook, I’ve lived with a feeling of borrowed time on the replaced drive. After four years, the fan began constantly running two weeks ago. Time was up.

I believe a well-crafted, accessible website can make a difference in someone’s Life. Like never before, the web gives people with disabilities access to information and the opportunity to interact with the world.

Blindness, deafness, cognitive and physical disabilities are dominantly viewed as life-limiting experiences. This ancient cultural belief has only served to limit people with disabilities in their access to education, information and opportunities.

What if we believed that deafness, blindness, and mobility impairments were just a fact of Life? What if we made reasonable accommodations for folks with these Life experiences?

Well, the world might look somewhat like the town of Chilmark did in the 1800s. A small town on the island of Martha’s Vineyard off the coast of Massachusetts, Chilmark was once home to a community of deaf and hearing citizens who all knew, and used, sign language.

The result was that the Deaf citizens of Chilmark were fully integrated into the community and held leadership roles.

Now, imagine the impact on the world of a communications technology that can level the playing field for people with deafness, blindness, cognitive and physical disabilities.

It is a joy to work with Web Standards, CSS, and Content Management Systems to enhance the accessibility of the Web. Working together, these tools are beautiful, useful and world changing.
